Tool: calculating the profitability of milk production on your farm

Milk production:

Tool: "How much does it cost you to produce 100 litres of milk? And what are you left with after deducting all the costs?" (2012 version – 2010 data)

This tool has been created to help you to calculate the production costs of your dairy business and to evaluate the balance remaining after deducting all the costs. In addition it is possible to compare your figures with the average values obtained by Walloon farmers. In line with practice on your farm, you can choose between 4 versions of the tool:

  • If you have a milking herd only, select the version "Milk";
  • If you have a milking herd and some crops (even if they only amount to a few hectares), select the version "Milk and crops";
  • If you have a milking herd and a suckling herd, select the version "Milk and meat";
  • And finally, if you have a milking herd, a suckling herd and some crops, select the version "Milk, meat and crops".

Attention, read page 1 carefully – Explanatory instructions – and select the suggested option "Activate the macros". This tool has been developed by the Agri-Development Department, with the financial support of the DGARNE, in partnership with the Directorate of Agricultural Economic Analysis of the DGARNE.
